WOEID stands for "Where On Earth ID", and is used as a representation for a location around the world.

The Twitter API has functionality to search for tweets sent from a specific region in the world.

With this functionality you are able to concentrate the topics created by Topic Storm to only a specific region such as a city, or perhaps an entire region or just a single country.

A practical example

There are several online tools for looking up WOEIDs, a free and easy to use site is the WOEID Lookup site.

To look up the WOEID of a specific location, enter the name of the location.

You can now enter the woeid into the Topic Storm settings to restrict the topics to only that city. You can also find woeids for regions or entire countries.
