Backlinks – find out who is linking to you

SEO Booster monitors every visitor that comes to your website.

If a visitor or a bot is coming from another website or search engine, they will bring a “referrer” string, indicating where they came from.

However, as with most anything else online – this information can be faked. This is called referrer spam – and is an old and very simple and ineffective way for script kiddies to get backlinks from sites that inadvertently link back to the website on public parts of their websites.

Any kind of traffic that comes in is logged, but since SEO Booster does not publish this information anywhere, it only shows up in the admin pages.

The list of backlinks is based on what traffic your website is getting or at least where the visitors pretend to be from, fake or not.

Verify backlinks – Pro feature

The premium version comes with a backlink checker that automatically verifies if the link is for real or just spam.

SEO Booster does this by visiting each URL and checking if the link back to your site exists.

If it does find a link pointing back to your website, it saves information such as the anchor text used to link to your site or if it is an image. It also checks if the link is nofollow or not.

If the link is not found, it will be rechecked and if not found after a few tries, it is removed from the list of backlinks.

Keep in mind, this list is generated by looking at the referrer string when visitors come to your website, so the backlinks might show up again after being removed.

Each link is checked and rechecked every 7 days. The amount of time it takes to go through your backlinks depends on the amount of traffic and new backlinks showing up.

Exporting data to .csv

Another Pro feature is the ability to export the backlinks to a .csv file to analyze further in another system.

Filter / ignore backlinks

From version 3.5 you can add backlink filters, meaning if you get a lot of spam from Russian domains, you can enter “.ru” and all those backlinks will be removed.

You find this feature in the settings page.
