You never want to ignore people on social media, as it shows that you are apathetic.

Social listening is a skill that more companies need to develop. In fact, there are many who do not even know what social listening is. It merely means that you will want to spend time regularly looking through social media posts. Sure, you will be posting to your social media accounts, but you will also want to go through and search for all mentions of your company and brand.

You will find that many of the posts about your company do not use the company’s Twitter handle or the @ symbol and they end up getting lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, you can still look up these conversations.

Also, you can look for conversations that are in your industry, even if they do not mention you directly. This can give you more insight into what people are talking about, and it can provide you with a way to inject yourself into the conversation. However, when you do this, you do not want to come across as trying to sell your product or brand. Instead, you want to come across as being helpful.
